The art of the audio sigil extends beyond its visual counterpart as a richer and more subtle form of abstraction; a holophonic vessel of intent containing the documentation of lived m(ag/us)ickal praxis, yet complete and satisfying in itself.

Contrary to the ‘fire and forget’ glyphic sigilisation process, audiomancy encourages a deep level of immersion in m(ag/us)ickal praxis over a sustained period of time to produce a more tonally rich expression of m(ag/us)ickal intent. When the mindset of total immersion in the creative m(ag/us)ickal process is sustained and every note, process, word, movement, and thought is understood as explicit ritual action, a subliminal ‘tuning in’ emerges. I most often relate to it as a form of channeling but, depending on the m(ag/us)ician(s) and intent, it can also be flow state, ‘divine inspiration’, a form of sympathetic magic, invocation or possession. Tuning in appears to create an amplifying feedback loop, conferring subtle energies to enhance the m(ag/us)ickal qualities of the piece and facilitating the construction of subconscious webs of meaning between the m(ag/us)ician, their praxes and the intent of the working, literally captured in frozen slices of time via the recording process.
The m(ag/us)icians should use any skills in their arsenal to instil the piece with richness of form and meaning: a mantra of intent processed into a myriad of different unrecognisable sounds; spatialisation suggesting intentional movement or action; brainwave entrainment; the derivation from the statement of waveforms through numerology; a visual sigil to contemplate while improvising; a list as long as your imagination…”
